Tooth decay often starts as a compromised area of tooth enamel afflicted by the frequent presence of bacteria in your mouth. With an early diagnosis, this small cavity might be repairable with a standard composite-resin filling. The longer you delay in seeking treatment, however, the more the tooth decay will spread.

If the decay has spread to a large area or you have cracked a tooth due to tooth decay, your dentist, Dr. Sonney L Chong will likely advise placing a dental crown over the tooth with a crown restoration at Sonney Chong DMD.

When you come into our office, Dr. Sonney L Chong will start by inspecting the tooth, to assess the extent of the decay. If the bacterial presence has pierced the pulp of the tooth, he might need to perform a root canal. This involves extracting the decayed material before restoring it with alternate materials.

After your root canal, Dr. Sonney L Chong will remove your decayed tooth enamel from your tooth. A detailed impression of the area will be taken and sent to a dental lab, where a permanent crown will be made. In the meantime, you will be fitted with a temporary crown to protect your tooth.

At a brief follow up appointment, the temporary crown will be removed and Dr. Sonney L Chong will cement the permanent crown onto your teeth with a strong dental adhesive. If you live in the Sacramento, California area and you have a tooth suffering from a large cavity, you should call 916-421-3057 to have it treated at Dr. Sonney L Chong’s clinic.
